INFO:May 4th, 11th, 18th
MEET AT 9:00am at QUARRY FIELDWE NEED YOU! Or rather, our park needs you - Spring is here, bringing warmer days, flowers blooming, birds singing, trees budding, AND vines continuing to grow all over our park! The park needs our help! What are we to do???
We have partnered up with the amazing Student Conservation Association to bring to not one, not two, but SIX (!) possible volunteer days for you to sink your shears into some beastly, park-destroying vines. During these volunteer days, you will be working with the SCA crew leaders, their team of local high school students that have been working on this park for a few years now, and other volunteers from corporate organizations on certain dates. The days usually last from 9am - 5pm, but even if you have just few hours to spare it would be highly appreciated.
Want to VOLUNTEER?! Email South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association President - Brian Oswald oswaldbj@upmc.edu -

GASP Clean Air Dash and Festival
WHEN: Saturday, October 19, 2013
TIME: South Side Riverfront Park
WEBSITE: Visit Website
INFO:GASP and Athletes United are very excited to announce the Clean Air Dash and Festival, brought to Pittsburgh with the support of the Heinz Endowments’ Breathe Project! This 5k race event will be held on October 19th, 2013 at the South Side Riverfront Park, along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. Click here to see the approximate start/stop and festival location.
The race itself will be a flat, fast course suitable for all ages and skill levels. Runners will enjoy a scenic, fun, and competitive race through one of Pittsburgh’s many dedicated, historic greenways. Take your time and enjoy the course, or race for a personal best time on the mostly-level route. Registration will be open soon for the race. We’ll be sure to let you know when you can sign up.
Not interested in wearing your running shoes? Fear not, because the race is only half the fun. There will be a clean air festival, also held at the South Side Riverfront Park. There is no fee to attend the festival so come and enjoy fun activities, good food, and learn about Pittsburgh’s air quality and other key environmental/social issues currently affecting the region. We are bursting with excitement about the partners, guests, and activities we are lining up, but we must remain silent on those for at least a little while longer…!
Come for the race, come for the festival, come out to support GASP and Athletes United in the fight for clean air! For more information on the festival, please email Sam Thomas. We look forward to seeing you on October 19! -
