Phillips Elementary School Student of the Month January 2019

The South Side Chamber of Commerce presented its Phillips Elementary School Student of the Month Award for January to first grader Devin Williams for his academic accomplishments.

Chamber happy hour features Community Options' Cupid’s Chase 5K Race

On January 23, Dollar Bank’s South Side Branch teamed up with Community Options, Inc., and the South Side Chamber of Commerce and hosted a happy hour to network with Chamber members, businesses, residents, and guests to mark Community Options’ 30th anniversary and kick off the Cupid’s Chase 5K in Pittsburgh in support of people with disabilities.

South Side Open Community Meetings for East Carson Business District Strategy

The purpose of these meetings is to report on the East Carson Street study’s key findings and to set up voluntary community task forces to develop work plans for initiatives to be taken in our business district.  Again, everyone is invited, including business owners, residents, property owners, students, public officials, patrons, and anyone else who wants to attend to offer ideas and make a commitment to work together for the benefit of the South Side.

May 27th OpenStreetsPGH in South Side

OpenStreetsPGH is a community event series happening on the last weekends of May, June, and July. Each event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The May 27, 2018 OpenStreetsPGH event in the South Side is the Downtown-Uptown-South Side Route.  While each of the three events expect to attract at least 30,000, last year South Side had over 34,000 participants.

Anthony Yankus celebrates 100 years

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. YANKUS!

Born in Pittsburgh in 1918, Anthony Aloysius Yankus will celebrate his 100th birthday on March 11th on the South Side. Mr. Yankus married Mary Smith of Pittsburgh, and they were blessed with nine children.  Mr. and Mrs. Yankus raised their children in St. Casimir Parish, now Prince of Peace Parish and were further blessed with nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren;
