Route 837 East Carson Street Safety Improvements Project Highlights

PennDOT shared details of the East Carson Street Project at a Public Information Meeting on March 18, 2018. They highlighted three reasons driving the project:

  1. Improve safety throughout the corridor.

  2. Improve multimodal mobility.

  3. Reduce congestion.

Route 837 East Carson Street Safety Improvements Project

PennDOT has announced a safety improvement project for East Carson Street. More than $20 million in safety improvements are coming to the South Side., The state has classified as the region's most dangerous roadway for pedestrians. The chamber has included a PennDOT video highlighting project details.

South Side Traveler’s Rest Opening 

After four years of extraordinary due diligence and an abundance of hard work to bring their property up to code with city and county officials, Paul Kletter and Mary Beth Karabinos announced that they officially will open and welcome guests to the South Side Traveler’s Rest on Sunday, April 1, at 67 S. 6th Street (corner of S. 6th and Bingham Streets) for unique lodging for travelers in Pittsburgh.

Anthony Yankus celebrates 100 years


Born in Pittsburgh in 1918, Anthony Aloysius Yankus will celebrate his 100th birthday on March 11th on the South Side. Mr. Yankus married Mary Smith of Pittsburgh, and they were blessed with nine children.  Mr. and Mrs. Yankus raised their children in St. Casimir Parish, now Prince of Peace Parish and were further blessed with nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren;

2017 annual meeting at southside works city apartments

We held our 2017 Annual Meeting on October 11, 2017 at Southside Works City Apartments. Chamber members and guests listened as outgoing President Chuck Reese highlighted the year in review.

New parking rules enforcement starts on Friday April 14th!

The city has extended parking meter enforcement until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays in our South Side bar and restaurant district. Enforcement of the $1.50 per hour fee between 6 PM and 12 PM begins this Friday April 14th.

There's no hourly limit on the meters during this time.
