2018 Annual South Side Soup Contest

It’s baaack!!! This year’s South Side Soup Contest is on Saturday, February 17, from noon to 3 p.m.  Soup Contest tickets will be available for purchase online only at www.southsidesoup.com at noon on Friday, February 2.  Tickets usually sell out in a couple of minutes. Those buying tickets are encouraged to keep refreshing their browsers.

A total of 1200 regular admission tickets will be sold at $30 each, with a maximum of four tickets per purchase. VIP tickets are $100 each and include a VIP reception.  Soup Contest t-shirts will be sold at $20 each at the check-in locations on soup contest day.   Ticket holders are encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations to drop off at the contest check-in locations. All donations will be delivered to The Brashear Association’s two food pantries for community families in need.

Twenty-five South Side Chefs each will donate fifteen gallons of delicious, secret recipe soup to be tasted at small, independent businesses along the soup contest route on the South Side.  After the tastings, soup tasters will text their votes for people’s choice best soup, best vegetarian soup, most unique soup, and best host.  Votes will be tallied, and trophies will be delivered to the Chefs with the winning soups.

The net proceeds of the soup contest benefit The Brashear Association and South Side Chamber of Commerce’s Welcome Center for their nonprofit community initiatives on the South Side and in South Pittsburgh. In its fourteenth year, the soup contest is a daytime, family-friendly popular fundraiser that everyone enjoys. The South Side Soup Contest is produced by 100 volunteers each year, including businesses, residents, students.

OpenStreetsPGH comes to the South Side

The Open Streets movement is sweeping the globe and is entering its third year here in Pittsburgh!  In its first year, OpenStreetsPGH included the neighborhoods of Downtown, the Strip District and Lawrenceville.  Last year it expanded again into the Northside and the West End.  And, this year it will include a loop in Uptown and the South Side on Sunday, May 28th!
