Route 837 East Carson Street Weekend Closures for Utility Work in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing the closure of a portion of East Carson Street (Route 837) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County will occur Saturday and Sunday, June 3-4 weather permitting.
 
East Carson Street will close to traffic in both directions from 7 a.m. Saturday continually to 7 p.m. Sunday between Becks Run Road and 33rd Street to allow crews from Duquesne Light to conduct utility pole installation and overhead wiring work. Traffic on East Carson Street will be detoured.

South of the Closure

  • From southbound Route 837, take the ramp to South 837/North 885 toward Homestead/Glenwood Bridge

  • Stay straight to North 885 toward the Glenwood Bridge

  • Cross the Glenwood Bridge and continue on northbound Route 885 (Second Avenue)

  • Second Avenue become Irvine Street

  • At the intersection with Greenfield Avenue, turn left and continue on northbound Route 885 (Second Avenue)

  • Turn left onto Hot Metal Street

  • Follow Hot Metal Street back to Route 837

  • End detour

 
North of the Closure

  • From northbound Route 837, turn right onto Hot Metal Street

  • Turn right onto southbound Route 885 (Second Avenue)

  • At the intersection with Greenfield Avenue, turn right to continue on southbound Route 885 (Irvine Street)

  • Irvine Street becomes Second Avenue

  • Cross the Glenwood Bridge

  • Take the ramp To 837 toward Glass Run Road/Carson Street/Homestead

  • At the stop sign turn left onto Glass Run Road

  • Turn left at the traffic light onto the ramp to Routes 885/837

  • End detour

 
Additionally, single-lane alternating traffic will occur on Friday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. between Becks Run Road and 33rd Street to allow crews to conduct preparatory work for the weekend closure.  Flaggers will assist motorists through the work zone.  Please allow extra time if you are traveling through the corridor.
